Beanie Babies 2.0 are a spinoff of the popular Beanie Babies A Beanie Baby is a stuffed animal introduced on December 11, 1992 and made by Ty Inc., which was founded by Ty Warner. The Ty company's famous special "posable lining" is under stuffed with plastic pellets rather than stuffing (see PVC and PE), giving Beanie Babies a flexible and cuddly feel. A Beanie Baby is essentially a fancy bean bag line, announced on January 2, 2008[1][2]. The group was introduced following the retirement of all retail Beanie Babies that had been produced prior to 2008.

Each beanie comes with a special code. Once the buyer enters the code on Ty's website, the buyer is granted access to an online environment (similar to Webkinz Webkinz are toy stuffed animals that were originally released by the Ganz company on April 29, 2005. Prompts may also be used in addition to full chat. The website offers various acitivites including opportunities to make friends. Buyers with a Beanie Buddy account and a Beanie Baby 2.0 also have access to the Beanie Babies 2.0 site.[3].

With Bo the Portuguese Water Dog being the last official Beanie Baby 2.0 announced in April 2009, and the introduction of a new offshoot line of Beanie Babies called Beanie Boos, it is unclear as to whether Ty has effectively discontinued production of new releases of Beanie Babies 2.0. However, the online site stills maintains its functionality and many Beanie Baby 2.0 styles still remain current.
